Usually one of the first things that people ask me about starting a blog is how to choose a blog topic the best way.
People will say “Paul, how do I know what to blog about? How do I choose a topic?”
I’ve heard many different theories on this from various different “gurus”, and I’ve personally tested a lot of these different theories because they sounded good and seemed to make logical sense at the time.
However, what I discovered was that there is really only ONE strategy for choosing the best blog topic that has worked for me and many others long term.
To explain the topic in more detail I decided to shoot a video today where I reveal what I believe to be the best strategy for choosing a blog topic.
You can check out the video here:
This is the best approach I have personally found to choosing a blog topic that has worked for me long term.
Hey! Woa, before you go, if you watched the video and want to download my Choosing a Blog Post Cheatsheet to print out and go through on your own, you can do so by clicking here.
It comes in PDF format so you can also save it for later use.

Wow, Paul! That video was just the thing I needed! You really hit the nail on the head when you said that eventually we would start “favoring” certain types of blog posts. I can see that in me now. In this 21-day challenge, I struggled with what to write about, even with the prompts. I found myself blogging about random things. Don’t get me wrong; they were valuable and I got some comments from people. But I know now WHAT I want to really focus on (no, it’s not wood carving!). I know to go out and find other blogs in the same niche and maybe start guest blogging on their sites and vice versa. Doing this, I believe, will allow me to gain a stronger following. Thanks for the eye opener. Appreciate it.

That’s great to hear Susan. I have seen so many people get completely paralyzed trying to pick the “perfect” blog topic and six months later they still haven’t started because they can’t decide which topic they want to focus on – LOL. From my personal experience, I have found that if you just BLOG about anything you feel inspired to blog about, the topic will just pick itself. 🙂

Awesome video Paul. I’ve completed my first 21-day blogging challenge and now into the second one, and just looking back at all my posts I can see a pattern emerging. I believe that by the end of this second blogging challenge I will have a feel of what I like to blog about the most and what can bring the most value to my readers from my knowledge and experience.
PS – Thanks for the cheatsheet! I’m going to use this to stay on track. I’m really enjoying your posts and appreciate all the valuable insights you’re sharing.

Ah, what a relief, Paul. I’ve created and abandoned so many blogs through the years that I have stopped counting, but the only ones, that I still have are those with my name in the domain name (I have an English one and one in my native language.) A thing that is better with a generic name that is not your name, is that you could actually sell the blog in the future, if you wanted to completely start over, which is hard if the domain name is your personal name.
I find that many ideas for blog posts could fit into one of the three main mega-niches, helping people get healthier, earn more money or have a better relationship, which is great if you want to focus on making money with your blog, because a lot of money is spent in these niches. At least you could make a twist on your blog post to make it fit in, and people would stick with your blog, because everybody spends money in these niches. I.e How to sell table top X, How to meet other woodworking enthusiasts, How to stay fit as a blogger etc. But this comment is turning into a blog post, just don’t know where to put it… WAIT, now I do – thanks! 😉

What a great video Paul,
I know what you mean about the blog post choosing you too. I have been blogging every day now for about 41 days and it doesn’t seem to matter what I ‘think’ I ‘should’ blog about, I end up blogging about whatever pops into my head that day!
I personally know a couple of people that are really going to benefit from watching this so I am going to be sharing it around. Very well done, thank you.

You’re welcome! And great job with the 41 day streak. Keep it going!
